Suspended Animation of Denys Watkins

Denys Watkins incorporates a variety of media including etching, screenprinting, watercolour, acrylic and oil painting to create strong imagery. This is one of his oil paintings, the Auckland Gallery comments that Watkins combines humor and sadness within this painting. I can find a very similar point with Gallery’s comment. There were two generations in the picture. The elder person looks like he is going to give up his life but the young person has self-imposed burdens. It is a natural thing between two generations. Although the young person looks like a depression because he has struggle, his legs not move, just his body moves forward. Compared with others what he had painting, the color of the house and figure of two people go to dark and exit a depression image.
